Jianping Chen, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, male, Han nationality, member of the Communist Party of China, born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. He is currently the director of the Institute of Plant Virology, Ningbo University; the chief scientist of China Institute of Rural Policy and Practice, Ningbo University; the director of the State Key Laboratory of Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Hazard Factors and Risk Control, and the president of Chinese Plant Protection Society. He was president of the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences and vice president of the Chinese Society of Plant Pathology.

He has been engaged in basic and applied research on plant viruses for a long time and has done a lot of innovative work in the identification of plant virus species, the relationship between viruses and myxomycetes oryzae mediators, the molecular mechanism of virus disease and plant disease resistance, the regularity of disease occurrence and control technology, and the industrialization of virus-free plant tissue culture seedlings. He has published more than 520 papers (more than 360 of which are included in SCI), edited 11 monographs and participated in the editing of 4. As the first complete student, he has won one first prize and four second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Awards, eight first prizes and five second prizes of the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards.

He has won the State Council Government special allowance expert, the national "May 1 Labor Medal", National Young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions, National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workers, China Young Scientist Award, He Liang He Li Scientific and Technological Innovation Award, Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award Youth Award, China Agricultural Talent Award, Achievement Award for Returnees from abroad, National Advanced Worker and Zhejiang Province Scientific and Technological Progress Major Contribution Award. He was selected as one of the first batches of outstanding talents in agricultural scientific research of the Ministry of Agriculture, one of the first batch of leading talents in science and technology of the National Talent Project and one of the first special experts of Zhejiang Province.
