Professor Xu Xiangming, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Agricultural Botany (NIAB) in the United Kingdom, is also the Director of the East Malling Fruit Institute. He has conducted a significant amount of innovative research in the fields of plant disease spatial dynamics theory, disease surveillance theory and technology, integrated disease management, fungal pathogen population structure and evolution, and plant and soil microbial communities. Particularly in the areas of disease spatial spread dynamics and disease prediction research, he has achieved important results by introducing computer and mathematical statistical models and simulation techniques, which have been recognized by international peers. Additionally, he has conducted research on plant and fungal pathogen evolution and genetics. For example, he has studied the evolution of homologous tetraploids, self-incompatibility, fungal toxins, and the establishment of genetic linkage maps for pathogenic fungi. These achievements have been published in 235 research papers in SCI journals (with an H-index of 47 and an I10-index of 169). For three consecutive years (2019-2021), he has been recognized as an influential scientist in the field of plant biology and botany by Stanford University (ranking among the top 2% worldwide).
