Biography:

Dr. Qiao Zhao is a researcher at the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is also the director of the Synthetic Genomics Research Center at the Institute of Synthetic Biology. Additionally, he serves as the director of the Guangdong Key Laboratory of Synthetic Genomics. Dr. Zhao was previously part of the Young Thousand Talents Program by the Central Organization Department and received the National Excellent Youth Fund. He obtained his Ph.D. in Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology from the Ohio State University in 2008. From 2008 to 2013, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Nobel Foundation in the United States. Subsequently, he worked as a researcher at Tsinghua University’s School of Life Sciences from 2014 to 2019. In 2019, he joined the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Zhao is a member of the editorial advisory board for Trends in Plant Science and serves as an editor for the Journal of Experimental Botany and Frontiers in Plant Science.

His research mainly focusses on Synthesis and regulation of plant aromatic metabolites, and Synthesis and application of artificial plant chromosomes. Dr. Zhao has made significant contributions in these areas, publishing a total of 11 SCI papers in international journals such as Science Advances, Molecular Plant, and Nature Communications over the past five years. In 2021 and 2023, he was included in the global top 2% list of distinguished scientists, jointly released by Stanford University and Elsevier’s database.
