The Department managed the National Mid-term Genebank of Vegetable  Germplasm Resources. It focuses on exploration, collection, propagation,  conservation and evaluation of domestic and exotic vegetable germplasm  resources, the long term observation of stability for vegetable germplasm, and  research of origin, evolution and classification of vegetable crops, elite gene  resource discovery, utilization of rare and elite vegetable germplasm resources.

It contains 38,748 vegetable accessions, ranking Top 1 in China and Top 4 in the world.
